PETROL LAMP – MORE SAFETY

In 1882, the German manufacturer Carl Wolf developed the first petrol lamp with an integrated igniter and magnetic lock. Compared to the existing mining lamps, the petrol lamp had several advantages. For example, the flame did not produce soot, unlike the previous lamps that used to burn oil. The igniter was located inside the lamp, so that it could also be safely lit underground. The stand of the wick also improved, allowing for better flame adjustment. The magnetic lock ensured that only authorized personnel could operate the lamp. All these improvements made this lamp burn cleaner, brighter and safer. It became a precision instrument.
