State Mine Hendrik was one of four mines that belonged to the Dutch State. The mine was located in Rumpen/Brunssum and existed from 1915 – 1963. Mainly gas-rich fat coal was extracted. In 1915 construction and deepening of the shafts began and in 1918 production started. In 1963, two years before the start of the closure of all the mines, the State Mine Hendrik merged with the State Mine Emma. It continued as State Mine Emma-Hendrik until its final closure in 1973. State Mine Hendrik had 8 floors and 4 shafts. It had the deepest shaft (Shaft IV) in the history of Dutch Mining, which was 1058 meters deep.
