Mines are dark, deep places where light was needed to see and work. Mining lamps brought light into the dark and were therefore essential tools for miners when extracting coal.
Throughout this tour you will become acquainted with a mining lamp – type helmet lamp - from Mr Ir. C.E.P.M. Raedts’s special collection. During his 43 years of service as a mine director, he managed to build up a top class collection of close to 250 examples. In 2022 his collection was given to the Dutch Mining Museum on a long-term loan.
The Dutch Mining Museum is pleased to make this collection available to the public by means of these tours. A large part of the collection can also be admired physically in the museum's permanent exhibition.
